Go, Lessen Yourself

The Midrash says that Hashem told the Moon to lessen herself during the week of creation.
A Solar Year is 365 days and 1/4.
A Lunar Year is 354 days, 8 hours, and 876 chalakim (29 days, 12 hours, 793 chalakim, times 12 months).
The difference between those two numbers is 10 days, 21 hours, and 204 chalakim, which is approximately 10.883 days.
In year 1, these years were in sync, but every year, Lunar Years are completed 10 days, 21 hours, and 204 chalakim before the accompanying Solar Year.
6000 Lunar Years, by extension, finish 6000 * (10 days, 21 hours, and 204 chalakim) sooner than our count. That would be the year 5821/5822 (corrected per comments below)

  1. 6,000 * approximately 11 days = 66,000.
    66,000 / 365 days/year = 180 years.
    6,000 - 180 = 5820, not 5722/3. Did I make a mistake?

  2. I'm not saying that 6000 years are equal to one year. I'm saying that if both solar and lunar years are constant length (meaning no leap years), then the 11 day difference means that the lunar year reaches 6000 in 5722/5723.

  3. And, I am saying that 6,000 lunar years would be approximately 5,820 solar years, 100 years later than you say. Is my math wrong? Also, did something of significance happen in 5722/3?

  4. I just don't see how the math that you did equals the assertion that 6000 lunar is equal to 5820 solar. 5723 is very close to the Pekida of 5727

  5. Please, show me your math. 6000 * 354 days = 2,124,000 days. How many solar years is this? We divide this number by 365, and we get approximately 5,819.

  6. Sorry for the delay, all of my correspondence here has been via my phone and I wanted to do this on a computer. You are right, and it makes it work out better. The result that I get is 5821. The last tikkun of the Geulah mentioned in the Zohar is right around then.
